Plugable's NVMe USB 10Gbps enclosure enables the fastest external storage for USB computers. Great for file storage, backups, transferring large files between computers, data migration to a larger NVMe SSD, or recovering data from a computer's operating system drive.

This M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure can support M.2 NVMe SSDs including 30mm, 42mm, 60mm, and 80mm long with an adjustable SSD retention pin. With our NVME USB-C enclosure we include both USB Standard-A and USB Type-C data cables for connecting to a wide range of computers, enabling NVMe USB storage on both notebooks and desktops.

Performance

USB 10Gbps and NVMe SSDs exceeds SATA III SSD performance in a smaller enclosure. The Plugable USBC-NVME M2 Enclosure is capable of raw read and write speeds up to 10 Gbps, compared to 6 Gbps with SATA SSDs; both are significantly faster than most USB flash drives.

Performance of the M.2 NVME adapter depends on the capabilities of your NVMe SSD and host computer:
- 10Gbps connection requires USB 3.1 Gen 2 on the host computer; USB4, Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4 hosts can support this enclosure up to USB 10Gbps
- NVMe SSDs support higher than 10Gbps when connected to a computer's internal M.2 PCIe slot, when connected through USB the performance is limited to 10Gbps

Compatibilty

Drive Compatibility: M.2 NVMe SSDs, 2280, 2260, 2242, and 2230, NVMe SSD not included.

Host Computer Compatibility: Desktop or notebook computer with USB 3, USB Type-C, USB4, Thunderbolt 3, or Thunderbolt 4 port. When connected as a Thunderbolt 3 SSD, Thunderbolt 4 SSD, or USB4 SSD the enclosure will be detected as a USB 3 device and operate at USB 3 10Gbps. Some USB 3 computers support only 5Gbps data rate.

Operating System Compatibility: Windows, macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS; relies on the embedded USB Attached SCSI Protocol driver for modern operating systems, and USB Bulk Storage driver for older operating systems.

Not compatible with non-NVMe SSDs, or non NVMe M.2 PCIe devices. Some NVMe SSDs may have reduced performance caused by thermal throttling on large file transfers, applying the included thermal pads can help with high performance or older NVMe SSDs.
